Popularized as a drink by the infamous Albert Hitchcock, the Mimosa became the sophisticated morning libation. Like many mixed drinks, the exact origin of the Mimosa is still contested. However, 1925 or thereabout sets the stage for either story. Most widespread in belief is that the Mimosa was invented by a man named Frank Meier, an employee of the renowned Hotêl Ritz Paris. His mixture of half white sparkling wine and half citrus juice was a bit different from what’s known as the Buck’s Fizz, the slightly older contender for the drink’s origin, which prominently features more wine than juice.
