Soda-water, the predecessor of modern day soda pop, has just been invented and is wildly popular. Ányos Jedlik, a scientist, has brought a bottle to his friend’s wine cellar. Upon a whim, they decide to mix the two together. The drink they created is known in Hungary to this day as fröccs. The excitement expressed by Jedlik’s companions at the novelty of bubbly wine is shared by wine enthusiasts to this day, and Spritzer carries on in that tradition.
